Awards Season 2012: The Oscar’s

So, the Oscar’s were last night. What did everyone think? I found them pretty boring, the red carpet pre-shows too, which is kind of disappointing. I’d like to think I would be a much better host/interviewer than someone like Lea Miller. I think we should start a petition to have either Emma Stone or Melissa McCarthy host next year’s show. I can almost guarantee you it would be fantastic. Those women were the highlight of the show for me. Emma Stone played her bit so well, you would have thought she was high or drunk (but in a good way)! Octavia Spencer’s speech after winning best supporting actress made be tear up a bit too, I love when people are that genuine and grateful to win. My awards show festivities were fun, here’s a glimpse of what my evening entailed:

Now for the good stuff. The fashion. Who did you guys think was the best dressed last night? While there were quite a few pretty dresses, there weren’t too many people who knocked it out of the ball park for me. If I had to pick my absolute favourite gown, I would probably choose Octavia Spencer’s with Milla Jovovich coming in a close second. Here are my picks for best dressed last night:

Octavia Spencer looked GORGEOUS in a crystal-embellished Tadashi Shoji

Kate Mara in Jack Guisso Couture

The incredible Mellisa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi

Sandra Bullock in a draped Marchesa gown

Milla Jovovich looked stunning in Elie Saab Couture

Gwyneth Paltrow in white Tom Ford (with a cape!)

Michelle Williams in a peplum Louis Vuitton

My favourite past Oscar’s gowns

It’s coming. The climactic finale to awards show season. The 84th Annual Academy Awards is this Sunday, and I can’t wait to see what everyone wears on the red carpet. Does anyone have any Oscar traditions they like to partake in? Do you host an Oscar party? For me, I like to live tweet and drink champagne while I watch. Social media and bubbly, can’t pick a better combo than that right! What I love about the Oscars is the formality. It’s not like the Grammy’s, or MTV Music Awards where people feel this inane need to dress over the top, wild and ridiculous. The Oscars are a classy, black tie affair and the dresses are often the kind of gowns you could only ever wear in your dreams, and a girl can dream. In preparation for Sunday’s television event I’ve decided to show you some of my all time favourite dresses from Oscar’s past. If I had to pick my absolute favourite I would have to say it would be Mila Kunis’s pale lilac and lace Elie Saab. Can you imagine a more ethereal, beautiful gown than that? If that were mine it would be the type of dress I constantly pulled out of my closet to retry on, over and over again. It was just that special to me. Here are some of the other gowns that have made me swoon in the past. Don’t forget to check back Monday, when I recap my NEW favourite gowns for this years’ festivities. Any predictions for bessed dressed?

NYFW 2012: From the front row

Let’s face it, seeing what the chosen few, the front row celebrities wear to Fashion Week is just as fun as seeing the shows themselves. Celebrities and fashion designers have long been BFF’s, and celebrities are walking, talking billboards and endorsements for what’s new and hot on the runway. It’s the ultimate irony in life, that the people who can actually afford to buy all the new designs are the ones who get the collections free…did you hear that Christian Louboutin gave Blake Lively his ENTIRE spring shoe collection!?! Sigh, a girl can dream … Here are a few photos of some of the fashionable celeb’s at NYFW 2012.

Awards Season 2012: The Grammys

I watched the Grammys on and off last night, enough to catch the few things I wanted to, such as the tribute to Whitney Houston and Adele’s performance. Many artists like to go extreme at the Grammys, but it’s just so not my thing. So many people like Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj try so hard to get noticed, I don’t know what ever happened to people just trying to look nice. It’s a nice evening out, why do you want to look like you’re a circus act!?! A few of the highlights in terms of style were:

Rhianna’s super sexy Giorgio Armani

Carrie Underwood’s Gomez-Gracia gown

Lily Aldridge rocked maternity wear in Gucci

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad (she has the best hair, she makes ponytails look so glamourous!)

Awards Season 2012: SAG Awards

Lot’s of beautiful dresses on the red carpet last night. There was plenty of colour, and risky dresses, which I love. There’s a fine line between an awful dress and an awesome dress and a few lovely ladies nailed it last night. Here are my favourite dresses from the 2012 SAG Awards:

Kaley Cuoco wore a beautiful aquamarine Romona Keveza ballgown:

Melissa McCarthy, glowed in a beautiful Badgley Mischka gown:

Lea Michele in a risky, sexy Atelier Versace creation:

Emma Stone in a 50’s inspired Alexander McQueen (who, by the way, had flawless hair and makeup):

Awards Season 2012: Golden Globes

Last night was the Golden Globes, the first big, formal awards show this season. There were many beautifully dressed men and women, and there were certainly a few trends on the red carpet…the most obvious being blush and nudes tones, followed by fishtail dresses. Below are my favourite looks from the evening:

1. Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka…can you believe this woman is 66!!!

2. Jessica Alba in Gucci

3. Julie Bowen in vintage Reem Acra

4. Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture

5. Shailene Woodley in Marchesa

Awards Season 2012: Critics’ Choice

Truth be told, I was not overly impressed by the fashion at this year’s 2012 Critics’ Choice Awards. Nonetheless, I was able to find my three favourite looks:

1. Charlize Theron in Azzedine Alaia Couture.

2. This couple looked so good and since the both donned Armani I decided to count them as one, George Clooney and Stacy Keibler.

3. Diane Kruger in Prada.

Awards Season 2012: People’s Choice

I love awards season. Not because I give a crap about who wins what, let’s face it…awards season is all about who wears what! Below are my top three favourite look’s at the 2012 People’s Choice Awards: Lea Michele from Glee in Marchesa; Kaley Cuoco from Big Bang Theory in Badgley Mischka; and, Stana Katic from Castle (I’m not sure who her dress is by).
